About Conexion

What is Conexión?
Conexión is the campus ministry department of the Assemblies of God of Chile, similar to Chi Alpha. As a matter of fact, the mission that Conexión has for Chile is the same as the mission that Chi Alpha has for the United States: reconcile students to Christ equipping through spirit-filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and mission to transform the university, the marketplace and the world. How did we get involved with Conexión/Chi Alpha?
In 2004 Josh went to a worldwide gathering of Christian university students in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Though there were students there from many countries, he met a small group of Chilean students and asked them a question that changed our lives: "Does Chi Alpha exist in Chile?". From the moment he heard the answer, "NO", there has never been a doubt that God was calling us to pioneer Chi Alpha in Chile. Since we are a product of Chi Alpha, naturally we felt the need to give students in Chile the same chance we had.

How long has Conexión been in Chile?
We arrived to Chile on September 17, 2008 and after getting settled in to the country and making the right contacts, Conexión was born in March of 2009 (the school year runs from March to December down here). The first Conexión group started in Coquimbo, Chile but after it became an official department of the Assemblies of God in Chile in March of 2012, the ministry began to expand. Today there are Conexión groups on 20 different campuses across the country.

Why "Conexión" and not Chi Alpha?
We felt strongly that the ministry we started needed to be something that Chileans could be proud of, something that was their own, something that would be there after we as missionaries are gone. So, on the way home from a weekend retreat, with our Chevy Astrovan packed full of students, we discussed, prayed, and then the name was born: Conexión.
